Calvary Chapel of Russell

Ministries

Serving our Lord by serving one another is a big part of life at CCRussell.

Here are some of our ministries...

Calvary Chapel Relief Team

We were impacted indirectly by the devastation caused by hurricane Helene in the fall of 2024. We had many family and friends in and around the Asheville, NC area. With only a few days of preparation, a team of guys set out with trucks, trailers, tools, and as many supplies as we could carry for Calvary Chapel of Asheville who were on the front lines of an immense relief effort. We had no idea how the Lord would direct our efforts.

Here are some photos from our first relief team effort.

Relief Begins...

Relief Begins...

First step was to unload the supplies we took to North Carolina.

Basecamp

Basecamp

Calvary Chapel of Asheville did not sustain much damage in the storm, but they were located in the epicenter of the relief effort. It would take pages to detail all they did to the glory of God.

Day 1 - First Assignment

Day 1 - First Assignment

On our first morning, we went to the house of an elderly woman. The babbling brook behind her house had become a ragging torrent that swept under her home destroying insulation, wiring, ducts, etc. It all needed to be remove before mold cold set in.

Day 2

Day 2

If you lived in the valleys, water was your enemy. If you lived in the mountains, it was hurricane-force winds and tornadoes. We heard about a woman who lived alone and had been cut off by multiple fallen trees.

Day 3 - Near Burnsville

Day 3 - Near Burnsville

The area around Burnsville had been particularly hit hard. We spent three days emptying and cleaning the basement of an older couple that had been flooded to the ceiling overturning freezers full of meat, hundreds of jars of canned goods, and everything else you can think of that someone might store in the basement.

Day 4 - Continued

Day 4 - Continued

Spoiled meat, compromised canning jars, mud, and more... what a job.

Day 5 - All Over Western, NC

Day 5 - All Over Western, NC

In the immediate aftermath of the storm, no services were operating. There was nothing to do except pile refuse in the yards and along the road. This was the scene all over western North Carolina.

Day 5 - Task Completed!

Day 5 - Task Completed!

Folks from Calvary Chapels in Pennsylvania and California, along with others helped to bless Miss Diane and her family. It's hard to image what they would have faced over the next few days otherwise.
